Lahore (ؑؑEducation Reporter)Government College University (GCU) has taken a historic and significant step to offer enhanced opportunities for higher education to students and promote various academic departments. The university administration has announced a substantial decrease in semester fees for selected degree programs, with some departments seeing a reduction of up to approximately 60 percent. This initiative aims to remove financial barriers, facilitating easier access to quality education for students and boosting admission rates in these programs.
According to details, the university administration has decided to slash semester fees in certain departments from 68,000 rupees to just 30,000 rupees. This fee reduction will apply to the relevant selected departments across both the Old and New Campuses of GCU. Sources indicate that this significant fee cut was decided due to relatively low admission rates in these academic programs, with the goal of encouraging students to pursue education in these fields. The selected departments included in this concession comprise Archaeology, Persian, Urdu, and History, alongside 10 other various significant departments.
Explaining this decision, the university administration stated that its objective is to provide better opportunities for a maximum number of students to acquire quality education without financial burden. According to them, this fee reduction will not only benefit deserving students but a significant increase in admission rates in these academic programs is also anticipated. Faculty members have also highly commended this university initiative, noting that the substantial fee decrease will bring major relief to parents from economic burdens. They believe this will play a crucial role in making higher education more accessible and affordable for deserving students. University officials have expressed determination that the purpose of this decision is to promote academic departments and provide quality education opportunities to the maximum number of students.
