LAHORE (Education Reporter): Following the recent tragic incidents in Lahore’s educational institutions, criminal negligence on the part of the Punjab Assembly has come to light regarding the regulation of private academies and tuition centers. A crucial legislative bill introduced by Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Amjad Ali Javed from Toba Tek Singh has been pending in the assembly for the last eight months.
Amjad Ali Javed submitted a comprehensive bill eight months ago, emphasizing the urgent need for legislation regarding private coaching centers across the province. In the bill, he explicitly highlighted that numerous severe complaints—including student harassment, physical assault, and drug abuse—frequently surface against these private academies. However, because the government and relevant departments lack any official data or registration system for these centers, taking legal action against them remains impossible. He argued that all such institutions must be brought under a strict regulatory and legal framework to effectively address grievances concerning students.
Speaking exclusively to Daily Khabrain, MPA Amjad Ali Javed expressed deep resentment over the delay. He stated that bills prioritized by the government are bulldozed and passed overnight through the assembly. Conversely, when it comes to legislative matters outside the government’s immediate preferences, vital public interest bills are left buried under files for months and years—the brunt of which is ultimately borne by the public and innocent students.
