Legality of University of Okara Registrar’s Degree Challenged in Lahore High Court; Plea Files to Stop Him from Working

“Supreme Court Has Already Declared PIMST Lahore Campus Degrees Illegal,” States Petitioner

LAHORE (Special Reporter)

The appointment of Jamil Asim as the Registrar of the University of Okara has been formally challenged in the Lahore High Court. The petition has been filed by Chaudhry Sajid Mahmood, raising serious questions over the educational qualifications and professional promotions of the serving Registrar. Keeping in view the sensitivity of the matter, the court has made the Governor of Punjab (in his capacity as Chancellor), the Chief Secretary of Punjab, and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) parties to the case.

Serious Allegations of a Fraudulent Degree

The petitioner maintained in his stance that the ‘Master of Information Technology’ degree held by Registrar Jamil Asim is fake and unverified. The plea states that Jamil Asim obtained this degree from the PIMST Lahore Campus, which holds no legal standing. It was argued before the court that the Higher Education Commission has already refused to attest degrees issued by the PIMST Lahore Campus, while the Honorable Supreme Court of Pakistan has also previously declared the degrees of this specific institution as bogus and illegal.

Illegal Promotions and Alleged Backing

The petition targets not only the academic credentials but also the professional service record of Jamil Asim. According to the petitioner, Jamil Asim’s promotion from Grade 17 to Grade 18 was carried out unlawfully. Furthermore, it has been alleged in the petition that University Syndicate Member Mazhar Ali Khan reportedly patronized and backed this illegal appointment.

Prayers Before the Court

Chaudhry Sajid Mahmood has prayed before the court to immediately declare the appointment of Jamil Asim as Registrar null and void. The petition further requests the court to issue an interim stay order preventing Jamil Asim from performing his duties as Registrar until a final decision on the case is reached.
