LAHORE (Education Reporter) The Syndicate of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore approved an Rs. 8.240 billion annual budget for the financial year 2026–27 during its 501st (3/2026) meeting, chaired by the Vice-Chancellor on Saturday, July 25, 2026.

The high-level meeting was attended by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, elected Syndicate members, the Registrar, and representatives from the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Islamabad, as well as the Higher Education and Finance Departments of the Government of Punjab. The house made several key decisions covering academic, administrative, and financial domains.

Budget Approval & Employee Financial Benefits

The Syndicate formally endorsed the Rs. 8.240 billion budget following recommendations from the Finance and Planning Committee. Aligning with Government of Punjab notifications, the board approved:

• Payment of 9 months’ arrears for ad-hoc relief allowances and pension increases effective from July 1, 2024.
• Implementation of revised Basic Pay Scales 2026, including the Ad-hoc Relief Allowance 2026 and updated pension payouts starting July 1, 2026.

Major Allocations for Development, Research & Welfare

To enhance campus life and infrastructure, the Syndicate expanded maintenance funding for academic buildings and student hostels. Other key grant allocations include:

• Chronic Disease Medicines (Employees): Rs. 180 million
• IT Equipment & Infrastructure: Rs. 150 million
• Machinery & Operational Equipment: Rs. 125 million
• Laboratory Upgrades: Rs. 80 million
• Need-Based Student Scholarships: Rs. 72 million
• Campus Furniture: Rs. 65 million
• Research Commercialization Fund (SBIR-Punjab Pilot Trust): Rs. 10 million

Financial backing was also approved to support the university’s Faculty Recognition Policy.

Faculty Appointments & Contract Extensions

Following the recommendations of the Selection Board, the Syndicate approved new appointments to strengthen academic programs—particularly in computing:

• 22 Assistant Professors
• 18 Lecturers
• 5 Officers
• 1 Campus Coordinator

Additionally, performance-based contract extensions were granted to 20 faculty members and officers.

Disciplinary Actions & Strategic Plan 2026–2030

Addressing service discipline under the PEEDA Act 2006, the Syndicate decided on cases involving 11 employees and authorized show-cause notices for 8 others based on inquiry committee reports.

Finally, the house officially adopted the UET Strategic Plan 2026–2030 and granted extensions in provisional affiliation to six affiliated colleges.
