LAHORE (Special Correspondent) – A wave of grief has swept through Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) following the tragic death of a 22-year-old final-year MBBS student who fell from the third floor of the hostel. The deceased has been identified as Fariha Afrahim, a resident of Azad Kashmir.
Incident Details: According to the University Registrar, the incident occurred around 7:15 PM when the student allegedly fell from the third floor of the hostel building. She was immediately rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment but succumbed to her critical injuries. The police have shifted the body to the morgue for an autopsy and informed her family.
Investigation and Institutional Response: Given the sensitivity of the case, the university administration and law enforcement have initiated the following measures:
- Fact-Finding Committee: A committee has been established by the Registrar to uncover the facts behind the incident, with orders to submit a report within 24 hours.
- 5-Member Medical Board: Ganga Ram Hospital has constituted a high-level medical board headed by Professor Dr. Abdul Hamid to investigate the medical aspects of the case. The board includes Prof. Dr. Bilquis Shabbir, Prof. Dr. Imran Aslam, Prof. Dr. Muzammil Hussain, and Prof. Dr. Tanveer Afzal.
- Police Probe: Authorities are currently investigating the matter from all angles—including the possibility of an accident, suicide, or foul play. Further action will be taken following statements from the bereaved family and the post-mortem report.
The university administration stated that they are closely reviewing the circumstances of the tragedy and are in full coordination with the relevant investigating agencies.
