KHAIRPUR (Special Reporter) Upholding the principles of transparency, strict accountability, and eradication of corruption within the higher education system, Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur has taken a historic decision to approve the cancellation of over 1,200 suspected LLB degrees from its affiliated law colleges. Several prominent lawyers of the country are among the suspected degree holders, and a formal public notice is being issued regarding the cancellation of their credentials. This bold initiative is being hailed as an unprecedented example of institutional reform, accountability, and the rule of law in the university’s history.
Two-Year Investigation by VC-Led Special Team
According to sources, a special team comprising senior professors and high-ranking officials, led by the current Vice Chancellor Dr. Yousuf Khushk, has implemented several effective measures over the past two years to ensure transparency and the rule of law at the university. As a result of these continuous and organized efforts, comprehensive record verification, fulfillment of legal requirements, and Syndicate decisions, this historic crackdown entered its decisive phase. The matter was subsequently presented and approved during the 92nd meeting of the University Syndicate.
A high-level inquiry committee, constituted in light of these decisions, completed a detailed scrutiny, verification, and cross-matching of records from both the university and its affiliated law colleges. The investigation identified irregularities in records on a massive scale, while several affiliated law colleges formally distanced themselves from these fraudulent entries.
Three Major Phases of the Reform Campaign
The ongoing process to cancel degrees following the Syndicate’s approval marks the third and final phase of the current university administration’s rigorous reform drive:
- Phase 1: Formal FIRs were registered against 128 individuals when the initial matters of alleged fake records and degrees surfaced.
- Phase 2: Strict departmental and legal actions were initiated against more than 8 university officials connected to this forgery, resulting in their suspension from service and a permanent ban on their entry into the university premises.
- Phase 3: A final public notice is now being issued regarding more than 1,200 suspected LLB degree records linked to various affiliated law colleges.
Right of Hearing and a 15-Day Deadline
According to the university administration, the primary objective of this public notice is to provide the ‘Right of Hearing’ to all affected individuals in compliance with the principles of law and justice. Under the issued notice, the concerned candidates have been given a final directive to submit authentic documentary evidence in support of their claims and degrees within 15 days. If a candidate produces admissible documentary proof within the stipulated timeframe, it will be evaluated; otherwise, upon expiry of the deadline, all relevant degrees and examination results will be permanently cancelled in accordance with the law, regulations, and Syndicate decisions.
