Karachi (Education Reporter): The University of Karachi has released the admission list based on entry tests for approximately 20 degree programs, revealing intriguing and important statistics. A total of 6,669 candidates appeared in the Karachi University entry test held on September 11, whereas last year for the 2026 academic session, over 7,000 candidates participated, showing a decrease of nearly 500 candidates compared to the previous year. Furthermore, 2,832 candidates passed this year’s entry test by scoring 50 marks, bringing the success rate to around 40%. However, an analysis of the data published on the university website revealed a lower overall pass ratio in 6 different departments; consequently, the admission committee headed by Dr. Saima Akhtar reduced the passing percentage in these departments from 50 to 25 marks, offering admissions to 3,255 students against 1,400 seats. Among the programs where passing criteria were relaxed, candidates scoring 25 marks in Applied Chemistry, 35 marks in Applied Physics and Environmental Studies, and 40 marks in Doctor of Physical Therapy, Education, and International Relations were offered admissions. An interesting statistical breakdown emerged from the results: among the 3,255 students offered admission across various score brackets, the largest group consisted of 1,073 students scoring between 50 and 59 marks, representing nearly 33% of admitted students. The second largest bracket comprised 865 students scoring between 40 and 49 marks (26.57%), followed by 661 students scoring between 60 and 69 marks (20.31%). Among those who passed, only 244 candidates scored between 70 and 79 marks (7.50%), merely 35 students scored between 80 and 89 marks (1.7%), and just 7 students achieved scores between 90 and 97 marks (0.22%). Among the students scoring below 50 marks who were offered admission, 34 candidates scored between 25 and 29 marks, while 336 candidates scored between 30 and 39 marks.
