Senate Standing Committee Agrees to Remove Federal Urdu University VC; Recommendations to be Sent to President of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD (Staff Reporter): The Senate Standing Committee on Higher Education has agreed to propose the removal of the Vice Chancellor of the Federal Urdu University following a review of severe administrative and financial crises at the institution. The committee meeting was held on October 22 at the National Assembly Building in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Senator Bushra Anjum Butt. The session was attended by Senators Masroor Ahsan, Jan Muhammad Buledi, Khalida Ateeb, and Falak Naz, alongside HEC Chairman Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmed, representatives of the Ministry of Federal Education, and Federal Urdu University VC Prof. Dr. Zabita Khan Shinwari. During the meeting, the committee reviewed serious charges against the Vice Chancellor, including convening syndicate meetings with an incomplete quorum, withholding salaries, and harassing faculty members. Senators expressed deep concern over allegations regarding the harassment of female faculty members, non-payment of pensions, 20 percent house-ceiling deductions, and the registration of an attempted murder FIR. Senator Jan Muhammad Buledi put forward the proposal to remove the Vice Chancellor from his post, which the committee unanimously agreed to forward as formal recommendations to the Chancellor and President of Pakistan.
